Hubert Watkins found his love of chess during junior high school. By the time he reached High School he began to demonstrate his ability as a tournament player, was captain of his West Philadelphia High School Chess Team, and went on to win local U.S. Amateur level competitions. After high school Hubert enlisted in the U.S Air Force and held the title of Chess Champion of Air Force systems command. His highest USCF rating was 1850, though he hasn't played in an over the board tournament in over 20 years. Though a loss for over the board play, it proved a great benefit to Hubert, who met the love of his life, Sharon, playing on line chess in 1995. Hubert also has a huge interest in bowling and chess books.
