Tournament Results - May 31

USCF Rating Report 

Thirty-five chessplayers competed in the Spring Finale chess tournament in Radnor, PA on May 31.   Fifth-grader David Arias of Media went undefeated to win the K-12 Championship section with a perfect score.  Carl Bannwart, representing New Hope Academy, and Max Polichuk, from Richboro Elementary, tied for 2nd -3rd, with 2nd going to Carl on tiebreaks.  New Hope Academy won the team competition.


After Rachel Yakobashvili from Rolling Hills Elementary and Yasasvi Hari of Goodnoe Elementary drew a hard-fought 63 move game in the 4th round, they tied for 1st and 2nd place in the 4-8 U/1000 section with 3.5 points each.  By just half a point on tiebreaks, Rachel was awarded 1st and Yasavi 2nd.  Third through fifth, with 3 out of 4, went to Curtis Sumner from Keith Valley Middle School, Alex Liu from Pocopson Elementary, and William Culbertson of Friends School Haverford, respectively.  Pocopson Elementary won 1st place in the team competition.


Clayton Johnson of Beaumont Elementary won the K-3 U/1000 section with a perfect 4-0 score.  Rounding out the top five were Kyler Shinkle-Stolar of Nether Providence Elementary, Stuart Sumner of Simmons Elementary, Aaron Lee of Eagleville, and Jason Hurle of Ithan.  Ithan Elementary, with 4 players scoring at least 2 points, easily won the team competition.
