62 chessplayers competed at the October Wave chess tournament at Wayne Elementary School in Wayne, PA. Atharva Deshpande, a 9th-grader from Upper Merion HS, won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 score.Â Jonathan Wu of Springton Manor Elementary, Ryan Schiller of Friends Central, Richard Wang of T/E Middle School, and James Strommer of Lionville Middle School all tied for 2nd-5th place at 3-1.
Liam McNulty and Justin Mangan won the K-6 U/700 section with perfect 4-0 scores. Springton Manor Elementary won the team prize with 9.5 points.
Michael Horbowy of Devon Prep was the top-scoring player among 4-8th grade unrated players, while Ned Burke of Ithan was the top finisher among K-3 unrateds.
The next scholasticÂ tournament in the area is the K-8 team championship November 14 at Radnor Middle School. And don't forget about the Friday Night Action tournaments, now held in King of Prussia!
