This tournament has four sections to accommodate players of differing ages and skills. Children play against opponents in their section. The first round begins at 1:00pm for all sections. The tournament concludes around 5:00pm with an awards ceremony where the top players and schools receive trophies.
Pre-registered players should arrive around 12:45pm. All games are non-elimination, and all players participate in all four rounds. For players using chess clocks, the time control is G/25 with a 5-second time delay.
K-6 U-200 Section (Beginners Section) This section is for Grades K to 6 for children with ratings under 200 or new players.
K-6 U-500 Section This section is for Grades K to 6 for players rated between 200 and 499.
K-12 U-800 Section This section is for Grades K to 12 for players rated between 500 and 799 and/or unrated players in Grades 7 to 12.
K-12 Championship Section (Most Advanced Section) This section is open for players Gades K to 12 rated 800 or higher and/or unrated players in Grades 7 to 12. It is also open to lower-rated players that want more of a challenge.
United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership is required for all participants, and can be purchased along with tournament registration. There will be free game analysis for all players by Senior Master Peter Minear. Online registration is $33 before midnight Wednesday, Oct 18 or $36 Friday, Oct 20 before noon. On-site registration is $45, and is available until 12:15pm in order to Play in Round 1. (Players may still register after that, but they are not guaranteed a pairing for the first round.) Chess sets are provided, but bring a clock if you have one.
Regarding Byes....If you anticipate that you will not be there in time, or need to leave the tournament early, please indicate which game(s) you will be missing. Your child will NOT be paired for those games which you indicate you want a Bye. The player receives a half-point for the skipped game, and will be paired as usual for the other rounds. Children can take a maximum of two half-point Byes in a four or five round tournament. Additional Byes will be zero points. Byes must be scheduled before a tournament begins.
